HAZOP ANALYSIS

Scope: To identify applicable deviations to process control parameters and to explore potential consequences both in terms of accidental events and with reference to operability problems.

Content: Systemic approach based on CIA (Chemical Industries Association) methodology developing identification of deviations, discussion of related causes and consequences, indication of prevention or protection measures and focusing of eventually needed corrective actions.

Results: Credible accidental scenario to be developed as risk analysis or risk assessment. Action plan to reduce operating risks and to enhance plant production reliability.

ELECTRICAL AREA CLASSIFICATION

Scope: To identify and to map potential sources of leakage from junctions or seals, in order to establish safety area to be considered for electrical installations or equipment to be included in the erected process plant.

Content: Working spreadsheet to list reference sources, to evaluate relative expected flow rate and to estimate potential explosive volume. The methodology is based on CEN standards and to UNI calculation guideline.

Results: Identification of electrical apparatus to be adopted, including eventual needs related to explosive atmospheres. Mapping of specific locations and indications for plant operations or development.

CONSEQUENCES ANALYSIS SIMULATION

Scope: To develop physical consequences profile of expected accidental scenarios in order to map potential harm to exposed targets.

Content: Home made simulation models have been developed on the basis of well known methodologies and research. Tailored model are available with regard to toxic outflows, radiations (both continual and transient) and explosions. The development of the simulation can also take into account meteorological data with regards to wind speed and atmospheric stability classes.

Results: Identification of expected damages versus distance of exposed vulnerable targets. Contribution to action planning as indications of priorities.
Preparation of base knowledge for the comparison with consequences-based assessment criteria and contribution to credible accidental scenario to be developed as risk analysis or risk assessment. Action plan to reduce operating risks and to enhance plant production reliability.

RELIABILITY ANALYSIS

Scope: To estimate expected frequency of occurrence of TOP EVENTS identified on the basis of case histories or on the basis of HAZOP results. To identify applicable contribution to each TOP EVENT and to underline main technical or operational issues to be enforced or controlled in order to reduce expected scenario.

Content: Fault tree dedicated software. The analysis identify contributions caused by operators as well as process equipment or control systems. The content are express as TOP EVENTS, including general estimations of the related expected frequencies.

Results: Each TOP EVENT is simulated using reliability data bank information. On the basis of the map, reliability data may be combined with consequences results in order to define area risk contour levels.
